International School Award

International School Award

In 2016 we received the intermediate International School Award; this involved a range of exciting curriculum projects and activities in and beyond the school, including linking with Wakaaranga Primary School in New Zealand. Our first work exchange commemorated the Queen's 90th birthday in 2016.  In 2017 staff and pupils have worked on joint projects with schools in USA, France, Spain and across Europe. On Friday 19 May 2017 we organised a whole school Multi Cultural Celebration Day, supported by Parents and Carers. Every class had the opportunity to visit the many stalls in the 'cultural market place' set up in both school halls. Activities included language displays, traditional dance, clothing and music, as well as hair braiding, jewellery and henna hand art painting. In addition we all enjoyed the taste of a wide variety of food and traditional dishes from many different cultures.

Junior Language Challenge and eTwinning;  As a result of pupils' hard work and dedication during Round 1 of the Junior Language Challenge, some of our pupils have received a prestigious Gold or Silver Award and a place in the Regional Semi-Final competiton in Cambridge: This is an incredible achievement and we are very proud indeed; In all, 8 pupils from St. Joseph's have made it to the semi finals this year, which is a fantastic result given the number of pupils competing across the Anglia region. Certificates were presented in a special assembly on Friday 07 July, by John Warwick, British Council International Schools Award Ambassador. In addittion, we have been awarded the eTwinning label for our summer term International Schools project. Well done to Mrs Bingham the staff and all the pupils for their hard work.

In July 2017 we submitted our application for the full International School Award Accredation to the British Council and  were successful! St. Joseph's Catholic Primary School is hereby accredited from 01 September 2017 to 31 August 2020. The assesor noted how 'The Catholic faith underpins the schools' approach and the curriculum celebrates the diversity of St. Joseph's and its Luton hometown.' For further information about the Award please read the attached press release and view the photos in our 'Learning at St Joseph's' gallery page.
